Background: 

Rian was born to a life unlike normal people.  His life was one filled with horror and eventual triumph. Rian is unlike normal people as he call them, he has become a new breed of Hero with the powers to help those more unfortunate them himself. 

Rian’s mother, while she was pregnant with Rian, was used by Omega Brain to test a new process to create super powers within unborn child. Omega Brain thought to create a legion of super villains to do battle with those that upheld the beliefs of “Justice” and “Morality”. 

Rian’s mother was able to escape from Omega Brain’s secret testing lab but found herself lost deep within the Mojave Desert.   With no skills to keep her self-alive she thought only of her unborn son and how she could best help him.  After two-days traveling as she could, across the desert and dodging the many agents of Omega Brain, she found a cave to rest in.

 While she rest, she soon discovered that her water had broken and she knew within hours she would give birth to her child.  She thought to show herself to those that searched for her but thought her child would have no life with such evil people.  She bore with the pains and finally after long hours and much pain, gave birth to a son.  Exhausted beyond belief, she thought herself lucky to not have been discovered by the agents that were looking for her and her new baby, what she didn’t know was that there were other things hunting her this night.

With no strength remaining, Rian’s mother fell to sleep, and it was a sleep she would never awaken from, for coyotes had found her hiding place and seeing the women easy prey pounce to the attack.  When they heard the cries of the baby Rain they jump back startled but soon one gain confidence and moved in on the screaming baby. 

Just then a single crack of a rifle could be heard and the coyote was flung across the small cave and fell dead.  A Navajo Indian who had been out hunting rattlesnakes had heard Rian’s cries.  He saw the danger and acted in hope of saving both of the coyote’s victims.  The pack scattered and the Navajo moved into the cave. He found Rain’s mother dead and upon inspection saw the medical band she wore on her wrist.  He also discovered a small locket that bore the picture of her and a man.  The Navajo took these items and then moved to the baby. 

As the Navajo pull back the baby’s covering he saw that the baby was unlike anything he had ever seen.  The child had blue skin and it eye were completely blue.  He covered the child said a pray to his gods and moved the child out of the cave.  He then built a cairn for the dead women and return to his home with the small child.

Rian would not learn of his birth for many years later, but after he would travels to his mother’s burial sight often, seeking answers to who his was.  It was not till after the secret testing lab of Omega Brain was later raided by UNTIL agents and the story written up in a daily newspaper, did he and his benefactor piece the whole story together.

The Navajo that had saved Rain’s life, Rian would discover was much more than a simple reservation Indian.  He was known as the Shaman and was a powerful Hero who had fought against the evil of many super villains.  He had retired to the Navajo reservation to better help his people.  As time bore on and with the Super Heroes falling from grace, he becomes more isolated and hides himself from the world outside the reservation. 

But when Rian fell into his keeping, he could only think that the gods had acted and he was to show the youngster the ways of the light and help him develop any powers he might possess.  So over the years Shaman helped to mold the boy into a man and helped to harness his growing powers.  It is amusing that Rian was to be an instrument of evil, and has become an agent of good.

Rian stayed with Shaman for many years and learn from him that there are villainies to fight and justice to be served.  Rian was somewhat rebellious and found he wanted to do more than hide himself from those that wanted only to protect him.  Rian travel to the bay area and sought out a profession that he might be able to better serve those around him.  He found that many turned him away and it hurt the young lad to see that he offered little to those in power.

He found himself a place in East Palo Alto and began taking photographs of the area and the people.  He thought he might sell these pictures to the local paper.  He found that he was quite good and became more and more obsessed with his new skill. His skill did find a niche of sort but not with the papers.  He found that local gangs and people who wanted to become unknown had a use for his skills.  With money tight and really nowhere else to turn he started to help these people on a personnel one on one bases.  He would use his powers to learn about the person and help those that he deemed ok.  Turning down some people did not carry well and Rian found himself beaten a few time to many but he paid his bills and had made himself a pretty good rep on the street.

When a super hero came asking for Rian help he jumped at the chance.  The hero was named the Green Dragon and had been know to help those in need in the area in and around china town.  Green Dragon only wanted to be able to keep up his actions but the government was closing in on him.  Rian helped him with the forged papers and after the Dragon had departed decide he need to do more to help those Heroes being persecuted by the government.

Rian allowed himself to be captured and made a deal with the government.  He registered as an alias and began to feed the government tracking info on the Heroes he helped.  With his link in place he could better help those that needed his help.  He knew he was playing a double edge sword but he knew with his skills and talents, he could better serve those Hero in dire need.  He feels it is only a matter of time before the government discovers his ultimate allegiances, but for now he is working the system.  And as long as they do not discover his shape shifting power, he feels he can always just vanish.

Rian sometimes worries that his girlfriend Janice will someday find out about his hidden secrets.  Hmm forgot to mention Rian one love, she a fellow street person who runs scams and will use any angle to help run her small outreach center.  He doesn’t always like her methods but has always forgiven any indiscretions she might commit. It’s all for the kids anyway.
