{"id":1829,"date":"2018-12-08T09:20:36","date_gmt":"2018-12-08T17:20:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/usandacat.com\/thelair\/?p=1829"},"modified":"2018-12-12T16:23:38","modified_gmt":"2018-12-13T00:23:38","slug":"my-2018-gaming-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usandacat.com\/thelair\/2018\/my-2018-gaming-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"My 2018 Gaming Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/usandacat.com\/thelair\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/2018To2019Dice.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1830\" src=\"https:\/\/usandacat.com\/thelair\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/2018To2019Dice.png\" alt=\"Dice 2018 T0 2019\" width=\"186\" height=\"104\" \/><\/a>In the past I have done blog posts with a geeky Christmas list or a review of some of my favorite geeky products from the year but this time I decided to try something a bit different.\u00c2\u00a0 Instead of lists I am going to do a blog post on some of the fun I had in 2018 with tabletop gaming.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SPS Has Been A Resounding Success<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starting the Sipping Primordial Soup (SPS) group was a lot of work but I am having so much fun with it!\u00c2\u00a0 I have met a ton of great local gamers and had the chance to run some wonderful small-press tabletop games.\u00c2\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait to play more!\u00c2\u00a0 \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n<p>Running all of these games has really stretched me as a GM.\u00c2\u00a0 I am having to come up with adventures for games that are not in my wheelhouse then run them for strangers.\u00c2\u00a0 The result has been a wonderful learning experience.\u00c2\u00a0 SPS has really allowed me to fine tune my GM skills, get better in areas where I am weak, and give me a lot more items in my proverbial bag of GM tricks.\u00c2\u00a0 I guess you can teach this old dog some new tricks.\u00c2\u00a0 Many of these sessions have been the highlight of my tabletop gaming life in 2018.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Big Bad Con 2018 Excels At All Levels<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Big Bad Con just nailed it again in 2018.\u00c2\u00a0 This little con that is rapidly growing just does everything with thought, acceptance, and skill.\u00c2\u00a0 From the massive amount of indie game designers, small-press RPG game sessions, and overall acceptance and love of their guests the con was a joy to attend.\u00c2\u00a0 Here is a <a href=\"https:\/\/usandacat.com\/thelair\/2018\/big-bad-con-2018-recap\/\">Big Bad Con 2018 recap blog post<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0with all the details.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tabletop Highlights<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have played a ton of different games in 2018.\u00c2\u00a0 Here is a rough list of ones that spring to mind.\u00c2\u00a0 This lists includes RPGs and tabletop games that I had not tried in the past.\u00c2\u00a0 These are not in any type of order just how they come to mind.\u00c2\u00a0 (FYI.\u00c2\u00a0 This list is roughly twice as long as my 2017 list!\u00c2\u00a0 My guess is that my 2019 list will be really massive as SPS started in August.\u00c2\u00a0 ;)\u00c2\u00a0 )<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monster Hunter Danger International &#8211; Finished the second campaign arc!<\/li>\n<li>Evernight Then Hellfrost Using Savage Worlds &#8211; The boys and their friend Spencer has an absolute blast gaming in 2018.\u00c2\u00a0 It so refreshing playing with inexperienced gamers!\u00c2\u00a0 All of those old tricks are new again.\u00c2\u00a0 \ud83d\ude09<\/li>\n<li>Champions Complete Reliance Revisited &#8211; Playing in the Reliance universe was a blast from the past.\u00c2\u00a0 I think this might be the first game I played with Chris as well.<\/li>\n<li>Colonial Gothic &#8211; Ran this twice.\u00c2\u00a0 Both times were complete homeruns!<\/li>\n<li>Sentinels Comics RPG<\/li>\n<li>Dungeon World in the Plague Of Storms campaign setting<\/li>\n<li>Masks<\/li>\n<li>The Watch With Anna Kreider &#8211; Played with the author once and ran it once.\u00c2\u00a0 Both total homeruns!<\/li>\n<li>Blades In The Dark &#8211; I ran two different groups.\u00c2\u00a0 My old group is starting a Blades campaign!<\/li>\n<li>Bliss Stage And Mountain Witch by Carl Rigney &#8211; Wow\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6Carl\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6wow\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6if you can play with Carl do so.\u00c2\u00a0 End of story.<\/li>\n<li>The Pip System And Mermaid Adventures With Eloy Lasanta &#8211; Just a blast!\u00c2\u00a0 Want to try Infestation with my boys.<\/li>\n<li>Spirit Island And Thornwatch &#8211; Two board games that I really enjoyed.<\/li>\n<li>Adult Board Game Night With The Connelly&#8217;s &#8211; Really great!\u00c2\u00a0 We need to schedule more sessions!<\/li>\n<li>Nefertiti Overdrive is on the slate for next weekend!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Gosh so many RPG sessions stick out to me but I will mention a couple that really rocked.\u00c2\u00a0 These are roughly in the order in which the occurred.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Evernight Session 10 &#8211; The Battle For Kingsport &#8211; This was the last session of my Evernight campaign with the boys.\u00c2\u00a0 It was so heroic and so cool!\u00c2\u00a0 I loved how well they played during this session.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/usandacat.com\/thelair\/2018\/episode-synopsis-session-28-guten-tag\/\">Dark Waters Rising Session 28<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0&#8211; &#8220;Guten Tag!&#8221; &#8211; This session was run with just three players but it stands out in my memory.\u00c2\u00a0 Loved how the adventure unfolded, the interaction with the NPCs, and how wrapped up.\u00c2\u00a0 Fun stuff!<\/li>\n<li>Mountain Witch With Carl Rigney &#8211; A large game but expertly executed.\u00c2\u00a0 Really showed me the beauty of what can be done with a game on such a focused theme.\u00c2\u00a0 Highlight of my Big Bad Con 2018 experience.<\/li>\n<li>Blades In The Dark Session 2 &#8211;
