{"id":1794,"date":"2018-07-13T08:37:03","date_gmt":"2018-07-13T16:37:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/usandacat.com\/thelair\/?p=1794"},"modified":"2018-07-13T08:37:03","modified_gmt":"2018-07-13T16:37:03","slug":"double-edged-razor-blade-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usandacat.com\/thelair\/2018\/double-edged-razor-blade-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Double-Edged Razor Blade Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/usandacat.com\/thelair\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/RazorBladePic.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1796\" src=\"https:\/\/usandacat.com\/thelair\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/RazorBladePic.jpg\" alt=\"Razor Blades\" width=\"280\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/usandacat.com\/thelair\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/RazorBladePic.jpg 280w, https:\/\/usandacat.com\/thelair\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/RazorBladePic-266x300.jpg 266w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 280px) 100vw, 280px\" \/><\/a>Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>About a year ago I started looking for other shaving options.\u00c2\u00a0 A friend named Gary used a double-edged safety razor and suggested that I give it a try.\u00c2\u00a0 He prompted that the blades are cheap and you could still get a close shave.\u00c2\u00a0 After doing some research I decided to give it a try.<\/p>\n<p>I decided on the Dreadnought razor based on reviews that it was good for beginners and easy to clean.\u00c2\u00a0 I went with a Dreadnaught brush and shaving cream as well.\u00c2\u00a0 At first I was not getting a close shave so I watched some videos and posted a bit about it on Facebook.\u00c2\u00a0 That is when one of my friends, Steve, said that the blade really makes a difference in the resulting shave.\u00c2\u00a0 I was dubious at first.\u00c2\u00a0 The next time we met Steve gave me a plastic bag full of various double-edges razor blades!\u00c2\u00a0 He also recommended a different brand of shaving\u00c2\u00a0 cream.<\/p>\n<p>That was the start of this project.\u00c2\u00a0 I decided to test out the razor blades to see if they really did make a difference and to see which ones I liked best.<\/p>\n<p>This project is not very scientific,\u00c2\u00a0 Here are the parameters of my testing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I used my <a href=\"https:\/\/shavenation.com\/products\/dreadnought-spartan-double-edge-safety-razor-w-10pk-blades\">Dreadnought Razor<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/shavenation.com\/products\/dreadnought-vanguard-synthetic-brush\">Dreadnought Vanguard Brush<\/a> only.<\/li>\n<li>I used only the new shaving cream that Steve recommended.\u00c2\u00a0 It is <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2L4y0uP\">Omega Shaving Cream<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>I tested each blade for four days.\u00c2\u00a0 After each shave I wrote a small note or comment about how it went.\u00c2\u00a0 When I finished with the blade I gave it a rating.<\/li>\n<li>I tested only 1 of each blade.<\/li>\n<li>All blades were tested on my face only.\u00c2\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reviews<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I will be rating the blades from 1 to 5 stars.\u00c2\u00a0 5 stars is the best rating.\u00c2\u00a0 I will start with 1 star blades then move to the 5 star blades.\u00c2\u00a0 The format for each review is:<\/p>\n<p>Name &#8211; Packaging &#8211; Comments<\/p>\n<p><em>1 Star<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Derby Extra Super Stainless &#8211; Plastic box with paper sleeves &#8211; The first day the blade grabbed.\u00c2\u00a0 The second day the shave was worse.\u00c2\u00a0 The last day the shave felt like it was ripping my skin.\u00c2\u00a0 It felt dull.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>2 Stars<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>FEATHER Hi Stainless &#8211; Plastic box with paper sleeves &#8211; Cut myself the first day.\u00c2\u00a0 This blades easily nicked me.\u00c2\u00a0 Second shave was ok.\u00c2\u00a0 Cut myself again on last shave.<\/li>\n<li>ASTRA Superior Platinum &#8211; Paper box with paper sleeves &#8211; First shave super close.\u00c2\u00a0 Light scrapes on second shave.\u00c2\u00a0 Third shave was fine but last shave was very rough.<\/li>\n<li>Vidyut Super-Max Platinum &#8211; Paper box with paper sleeves &#8211; Pulled a bit the first day.\u00c2\u00a0 Bit rough and a nick on the second shave.\u00c2\u00a0 Two nicks on fourth shave.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>3 Stars<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dreadnaught &#8211; Plastic box with paper sleeves &#8211; Tears a bit on the first two shaves,\u00c2\u00a0 Not close on third shave but four shave was nice.<\/li>\n<li>Gillette NACET Stainless &#8211; Paper box with paper sleeves &#8211; Pulled a bit on the first shave.\u00c2\u00a0 Scraped a bit on second and third.\u00c2\u00a0 Fourth shave is fine.<\/li>\n<li>Gillette GOAL &#8211; Paper box with paper sleeves &#8211; Nice slick first shave!\u00c2\u00a0 Pulled a bit on the second and more on the third shave.\u00c2\u00a0 Fourth shave was rough.<\/li>\n<li>Derby Extra &#8211; Plastic box with paper sleeves &#8211; Not a bad first shave.\u00c2\u00a0 Second shave not close and a nick.\u00c2\u00a0 Third was rough and fourth was a tad abrasive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>4 Stars<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ASTRA Superior Stainless &#8211; Paper box with paper sleeves &#8211; Clean start.\u00c2\u00a0 Good second and third shaves but not real close.\u00c2\u00a0 Bit rough fourth shave but close.<\/li>\n<li>Blue Bird &#8211; Plastic box with paper sleeves &#8211; Started rough but ended first shave cleanly.\u00c2\u00a0 Very nice second shave but bit rougher on third and fourth shaves.<\/li>\n<li>Shark Super Chrome &#8211; Plastic box with paper sleeves &#8211; Nice first shave and last shave,\u00c2\u00a0 Second and third shaves pulled a bit and felt irritated.<\/li>\n<li>Shark Super Stainless &#8211; Paper box with paper sleeves &#8211; Great first and second shaves but bad third shave with a nice and not close.\u00c2\u00a0 Nice last day shave.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>5 Stars<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>TRIG Silver Edge Stainless &#8211; Paper box with paper sleeve &#8211; First shave was good but second shave was GREAT!\u00c2\u00a0 Close and no irritation at all.\u00c2\u00a0 Got minor nick on last day but the shave was close.<\/li>\n<li>ASTRA Platinum &#8211; Paper box with paper sleeve &#8211; Best first shave of the set!\u00c2\u00a0 Second shave was nice but bit rough.\u00c2\u00a0 Great third and fourth shaves with slick finish.<\/li>\n<li>BIC Chrome Platinum &#8211; Paper box with paper sleeve &#8211; Great first shave with no pull.\u00c2\u00a0 Good close second shave. Fine final shave but dull feel at end,<\/li>\n<li>Gillette 7 O&#8217;Clock &#8211; Paper box with paper sleeves &#8211; Great first shave!\u00c2\u00a0 Second shave was close with no pull at all.\u00c2\u00a0 Beautiful third shave and perfect 4th shave.\u00c2\u00a0 My favorite blade of the test.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Does The Blade Type Really Manner?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The short answer is yes&#8230;but not critically so.\u00c2\u00a0 You can see that I rated more of the blades 4 and 5 stars.\u00c2\u00a0 These are all acceptable to me.\u00c2\u00a0 I bought 100 of the Gillette 7 O&#8217;Clock and 100 of the TRIG after my test wrapped up.<\/p>\n<p>To be honest, the change in shaving cream might have ended up being a bigger change.\u00c2\u00a0 The Omega shaving cream is a great product.\u00c2\u00a0 It lathers just right and one bowl lasts a LONG time\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6like 6 months!\u00c2\u00a0 Highly recommended.<\/p>\n<p>Wanted to close by thanking Steve for the bag of blades so I could run this test.\u00c2\u00a0 I am really glad I went through the effort to switch to double-edged blades as it will end up saving me money and I find the act of shaving a bit more enjoyable.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary About a year ago I started looking for other shaving options.\u00c2\u00a0 A friend named Gary used a double-edged safety razor and suggested that I give it a try.\u00c2\u00a0 He prompted that the blades are cheap and you could still get a close shave.\u00c2\u00a0 After doing some research I decided to give it a try.
