I formed KODL when there was motivation from friends and a desire on my part to remedy the problems that we encountered in another fantasy league. I thought to myself..."Hey I can do that!" The name of the league comes from a comment that Rudy made about my fantasy team of the time, The Red Zone Warriors. I was having really bad luck with injuries. Rudy said that putting a fantasy player on the Red Zone Warriors was like "The Kiss of Death". It stuck.
The first season in 1997 was a blast. We used a lot of the rules from the previous league with only a few changes from the Commish. Two Clark teams took the big prizes.
The second year in 1998 brought something seriously BIG to the league...literally...Big Sal. Big Sal's The Spread newsletter became an instant hit and I hope also an institution of the Kiss of Death League. Thanks again Rudy! Jeff Goodfellow joined the league and immediately made his presence felt taking the second spot. The P-Bro took the championship.
The third year in 1999 we added a new team run by John Sorci, The Medicine Men. It was an attempt at a new playoff rule system. Phil's patience and planning took him to the top with the new playoff system.
In 2000 Tony Ackermann...the Absentee Management squad was added. A return to an older style playoff picture was used. The SLO Death squad took the big prize.
For the 2001 season THREE new teams are added. We mourn the loss of the Sourthpark Cows and Psycho Widowmakers. Rules stay pretty much the same. Minor corrections and such. This is the first year we attempt to use a message board. The season saw a rookie team take the big prize!
For the 2002 season we used a Yahoo Group to help control the league. It worked GREAT! The Muddy's did it again in 2002!
For the 2003 year I tried some minor scoring changes but nothing too drastic. The Goodfellas finally came up big in the playoffs. Nice job Jeff!!!
Deryl became the first three time champion for the 2004 season. He dominated the first week of the playoffs and held the lead through the end. He also provided some GREAT analysis of other post seasons which I will post right below this section.
The Kings had a legendary run at the end of the regular season but fell far short in this years unpredictable NFL playoff season. The Yellow Cowboys were a new franchise this year replacing the HIT SOMEBODY!!! squad. The now stalwart Three and Out squad took the league championship.

Here are the results from the KODL post season history. Although, 1998 may have been the year that individual lineups were submitted, or the numbers have been lost. Well, let’s analyze this a little bit.
1997 Set the record, which stands today as the all-time low for the percentage of the post season points by a post season team at 16.1%.
1999 Had the tightest race among all 4 competitors (only 4.8% of the post season point separate the top and last finisher).
2000 Saw the largest margin of victory (5.8%) from 1st to 2nd and 17.1% from 1st to 4th. First place had more than double the points of the fourth place finisher.
2000 Also set the post season record with the top spot earning 33.8% of the post season points.
2001 Had the tightest separation among the top two finishers (1%, and actually 1 point).
2002 A mere 1.5% separated the top three spots.
2004 Marks the fourth time that all four teams post more than 20% of the total points, but less than 30%.
Jeff and Dan are tied for the most post-season appearances (6).
Deryl has the most Championships (3 – 1997, 2000, 2004), followed by Phil (2 – 1999, 2002) and Louis (2 - 2001, 2005).
Only SLO Death and 3&Out have had Championship rookie seasons.
Both the Tod’s Widowmakers and Los Gatos Wildcats made the playoffs in the KODL inaugural season, only to eliminate themselves from the league. The Widowmakers joined forces with another team (Psycho Killers) the following year.
